TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — State Sen. Paula Dockery is planning to file paperwork to run for governor.

The 48-year-old Lakeland woman will walk from the Capitol Tuesday afternoon to the Division of Elections to officially enter the race.

She'll challenge Attorney General Bill McCollum for the Republican nomination to replace Republican Gov. Charlie Crist. Crist is leaving office after one term for a U.S. Senate bid.

Dockery is seen as an alternative to the Republican establishment. That became even more clear when former Gov. Jeb Bush endorsed her opponent Tuesday, hours after Dockery told the AP she would run.

The state Republican Party has backed McCollum and didn't want a primary. The only major Democrat in the race is Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink.

A Sink/Dockery matchup would produce Florida's first female governor.
